Equipping foster youth and families to thrive flourish aspire bloom create lead
Fostering Hope Seattle envisions a world where vulnerable youth recognize their value and worth and grow into their full potential. We do this by equipping foster youth, supporting foster parents, and partnering with social workers.
The Need in Our County, State, and Country
FOSTER CARE TO PROSTITUTION PIPELINE
At least 500 minors work in King County’s commercial sex trade every day, according to conservative estimates. Advocates believe more than half of those children are in the foster-care system, making it a pipeline to prostitution. (Source)
“…the National Foster Youth Institute recently estimated that 60% of child sex trafficking victims have been within foster care (or another part of the larger child welfare system).” (Source)
FOSTER CARE TO HOMELESSNESS PIPELINE
33% of foster youth in Washington experience homelessness by age 21. (Source)
FOSTER CARE TO PRISON PIPELINE
Youth placed in Group Homes are 2.5 times more likely to get involved in the justice system. 90% of youth with more than five foster placements will enter the justice system. (Source)
Together, we can make a difference.
Now, more than ever, we can make a life-changing, life-long, and life-saving impact for foster youth and families in and throughout Seattle.
